Cuteness for Your Thursday

I found this one snuggled up on our bed last night. I believe a certain husband may have allowed her to jump up there before I came to bed last night. Thought I'd share this little bit of cuteness with you on this Thursday.

So today I have officially reached the scary, third trimester. I am now 27 weeks, with 13 left to go! I have started antenatal classes this week too.

I also did my gestational diabetes test yesterday for pregnancy, which measures sugar levels in your blood. It's unfortunately fairly common to get gestational diabetes in pregnancy, so I have my fingers crossed that all the Easter chocolate hasn't effected things.

It's not the most pleasant of tests when pregnant because you have to fast from 10pm the night before (hello pregnant woman NOT eating) and then stay at the medical centre for 2 hours during testing. They take a blood sample initially, then make you drink this wonderful concoction below and take two more blood samples from you on the hour. That equals three needles, nauseousness and 2 hours of your life you're not getting back. Results aren't given straight away either, so I have a nervous wait until next week.

A scorcher of a weekend

Whilst Victoria may still be enjoying some cooler (miserable) weather, Queensland has been very dry and hot of late. This was evidenced by several bush fires occurring over the weekend. I have been secretly hanging out for some rain, just so the lawn can appear a little bit greener. The electrical storm we received last night does not count! It did however manage to freak me out at one point because the light was so bright, I thought someone was shining a torch into my place. Thunder followed, as did a sigh of relief.

I often spare a thought for the animals in this heat and them having to cope with our humid days. It is for this reason, that we often give our labrador ice in her water bowl over spring and summer. We splurged on her a little bit this weekend and bought her a paddling, shell pool and a big ball (she is used to playing with smaller, tennis balls that she can wrap her teeth around). The new basketball-like ball was therefore a bit of a challenge. Here's a picture of her playing with her new toys.

I have also been trying harder to be healthier with this hot weather. Dinner last night was watermelon juice and a pasta salad. They may not go together well but boy did they ever taste delicious! What did you cook on the weekend?

Happy Birthday Beautiful

Our little or not so little puppy, turned dog turned 1 yesterday. She was very excited to receive an edible birthday card and tug of war toy.

The edible birthday card kept her entertained for about an hour -
best present ever!

So entertained that she wouldn't touch her other gift for a while

A Week for Family

As our lives become increasingly busy and stressful, it is sometimes difficult to make time for the ones we love. This week, I have taken time out to ensure I spend some quality time with my loved ones. This included seeing my mother, grandmother and mother-in-law for mother's day, a night away with my husband and taking part in the Million Paws Walk with my beautiful labrador.

Our room at Royal on the Park

My husband and I celebrated three amazing years of marriage this week and I decided a couple of months ago that I wanted to do something special for it and keep it a surprise to him. With thanks to Wotif's $12 birthday sale, I was able to find an amazing deal for a room in the city and book dinner at Moda restaurant, which was right around the corner. Hubby unfortunately doesn't like surprises much and was initially very confused when I took a different turn to our usual drive home.
He initially thought I was taking him to the movies but then I drove past there, then he thought he was going to a musical with me but then I drove past there and it wasn't until I entered the hotel district that he started to worry that he wasn't dressed for the occasion. Little did he know, I had a bag packed in the boot and a dogsitter on hand. I'm surprised he didn't pick up on my cleaning activity at home, as it was moreso than usual.

Moda was amazing for dinner and dessert. We had a very courteous waiter and mouthwatering food. Here's a sample of what I had...

White Chocolate Mousse with a Passionfruit top and Raspberries

I woke up this morning to a very excitable labrador licking my face. It's funny how animals pick up on things sometimes - it was almost as if she knew something different was going to happen today. It was a nice start to the day and I felt great for helping the RSPCA raise some much needed funds.
